Plato once said that music “is a more potent instrument than any other for education”.
You will find many teachers of young children who would agree with him. Recent research has found that music uses both sides of the brain, a fact that makes it valuable in all areas of development. Music affects the growth of a child’s brain academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
TUITION
Tuition is payable by the month or by the quarter. Students may enroll at any time during the year. If you are interested in signing up for lessons, please email or call to schedule a complimentary interview for us to meet and to discuss your goals. At this time you may pick up a registration form and tuition schedule. Tuition covers the following services: private lessons, group classes, studio recitals, preparation for auditions, competitions, recitals and exams, lending library items (books, music, CD's, tapes and videos), extended lessons when needed and phone/personal consultations and interviews. Tuition is due in advance on the first lesson of every month or quarter. A late-payment fee of $25 will be charged for all tuition not received by the 10th of the month. Checks should be made payable to: Donna Riesen.
CALENDAR
A calendar of studio events and holidays is posted on the Calendar page of this website. Please refer to this calendar for important studio dates.
SCHEDULE CHANGES/MAKE-UPS
Parents will be responsible for the payment of any missed lesson, unless notification has been made 24 hours in advance. If your child wakes up with an illness or is sent home from school due to illness, please call or e-mail me immediately to reschedule that day’s lesson. Lessons missed due to illness (or family emergencies) will be rescheduled. You/your child must be fever-free, vomit-free, and diarrhea-free for 24 hours before attending a lesson.
A missed lesson, with proper notification, must be rescheduled within one month, otherwise it is forfeited. Every student will be allowed a maximum of four rescheduled lessons per school year. When a student has a conflict, he or she may use the Studio Swap List to arrange a swapped lesson time with another student. Please notify me in advance of any swapped lesson times. If the teacher must miss or cancel a lesson, it will be made up at a mutually convenient time.
TERMINATION OF LESSONS
A one-month written notice is required to discontinue lessons and tuition must be paid through this one-month period. Such notice must be delivered to me (Donna Riesen) personally, in writing. Failure to give notice will result in a one-month cancellation fee. The studio will not accept/recognize e-mails nor telephone messages as documentation for said notice.
1.With this amount of notice, preparation for stopping the lessons can be made and closure effective.
2. If there is a solution available to any problems that may exist, time is given to communicate and possibly clear up any misunderstandings, or make necessary changes so that lessons can continue.
3.Balances on tuition plans and balances for materials and supplies are due and payable at the time of termination.
STUDIO RULES OF CONDUCT
1.Use voice and behavior that will not disturb other students.
2.Leave all food and drinks (except water) outside the studio.
3.To help maintain a clean and healthy studio environment, please remove your shoes and wash your hands before the lesson.
4.Remove any jewelry from wrists and fingers while at the piano and keep fingernails trimmed short.
5.Do not chew gum, or wear hats or caps during the lesson.
6.Young children should not be left unsupervised in the waiting area.
INVOLVEMENT OF PARENTS OR GUARDIANS
The key to a child’s musical success is parent involvement and the priority the family places on music in the home. As a family, decide that practice will be a part of the day's activities. Sit with your student at the piano for a little one-on-one time. Listen to your student with encouragement and enthusiasm. Check to see that all assignments are being practiced and to offer support.
1.Parents should provide a well-tuned piano (at least once a year), a metronome, and a quiet place to practice.
2.The parent’s responsibilities include bringing the student to lessons on time, and picking them up on time.
3.Please be sure to keep your email address updated with the teacher.
4.Parents are encouraged to call or email me if there are any concerns or questions. Communication is important to a good learning relationship! Parents are welcome to attend any lesson, or wait in the adjoining room. Parent-Teacher Conferences are available upon request.
At all times, the student’s best interests come first - musical and otherwise!
